Cherry, Kendra. “What is Cognitive Bias?” Verywell Mind, 19 July 2020, www.verywellmind.com/what-is-a-cognitive-bias-2794963.
This article gave a general explanation of cognitive bias as well as very detailed examples of the different types of bias. The purpose was very informative, it even talked about the causes and prevention of cognitive bias. I used this theme to make the connection to the decision-making, which lead to my connection between our knowledge of psychology and both novels. This source definitely changed how I think about the topic, it helped me gain an understanding of what Victor and Gatsby went through.
Fitzgerald, F. Scott (Francis Scott), 1896-1940. The Great Gatsby. New York :C. Scribner’s sons, 1925.
“The Great Gatsby” was a great primary source to use for my theme. The book tells the story of a man that went rags to riches in his pursuit of the love of his life. In this journey the actions he has to commit lead to him losing his self, committing murder, and eventually dying. This book definitely helped point out the different ways we can isolate ourselves.
Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft, 1797-1851. Frankenstein, Or, The Modern Prometheus : the 1818 Text. Oxford ; New York :Oxford University Press, 1998.
“Frankenstein” is an amazing story that is told from 2 main perspectives. One is the creator Victor Frankenstein and his creation, the monster. Throughout the novel, Victor goes through many ups and downs. His breaking point was when his creation came to life. With his ambition, we expected a different reaction from him, but he shriveled and rejected his creation. On the monster’s journey of revenge, he kills Victor’s loved ones and also leads Victor to his own death. Ironically we saw the monster becoming more human than Victor as the story progressed. Victor’s life when he started university was a perfect example of the theme of self-isolation.
“The Psychology of Decision Making.” OpenLearn, The Open University, 30 Aug. 2019, www.open.edu/openlearn/body-mind/psychology/the-psychology-decision-making.
This article was about the main aspects of decision-making. It summarized the process into different steps that helped explain how we make decisions in a project. This source was very helpful and a blessing. After reading a lot of scientific articles, I felt like this one summarized decision-making really well. Lastly, this article changed my thinking from “emotions or reason” in decision making to “the processing of information” in decision making.
